Almost There!

Well, I'm almost there now. The computer guys have been able to retrieve 167gb of my 215, and they should have the rest by today sometime. What an ordeal for them. Apparently, the hard drive can't be run very long before it reverts to the messages that "the drive has to be reformatted before you can continue" or something else that won't let you retrieve any other files. Let it cool down, and you're good to go for a few more gigs of transfer. I am so very, VERY thankful that they have been able to get this far with it. The files are being transferred to my new Western Digital 1TB external USB hard drive, and I am looking forward to bringing that baby home!

  1. Okay, my lesson for the day...is 1TB a terabyte?

  2. Yes, ma'am ... a LOT of storage! To give you a better picture: 1,000 megabytes = 1 gigabyte; 1,000 gigabytes = 1 terabyte.

  4. Actually, Cheryl, I won't have an extra backup. The original terabyte is toast! It has taken them (still haven't finished the last bit of it) over a week to get it all off the original HD. They've had to stop and start, stop and start, to get pieces of it at a time. I wouldn't begin to try to use it again once this is done. I will, however, be looking at doing online backup with either Mozy or Carbonite. Probably will go with Mozy, but we'll see. I'll be able to backup my entire computer with them. From a lesson learned the hard way, I recommend that EVERYONE back up, back up, BACK UP. 1TB external hard drives are not that expensive these days, and are well worth it. I will not be in this position again for sure.
